ABOUT THE TROOP

Welcome to Scout Troop 50! We are located in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Chartered in 1951 to University United Methodist Church, Troop 50 is part of the Istrouma Area Council. Our troop has a long tradition of providing the full Scouting experience to our members. Regular troop meetings, community service projects, and outdoor programs offer our Scouts every opportunity to advance at their own pace. Leadership is at the core of scouting. We empower the Scouts to lead patrols and the Troop, so they are able to learn by doing. The adult leaders are there to provide direction, coaching, and support. Parental involvement is critical to the success of our mission, and parents are expected to become involved. A wide variety of leadership and volunteer positions are open to all adults. Your time and commitment to invest in your scouts will allow troop members to learn to lead.

TROOP lEADERSHIP

Scouts in Troop 50 range in age from 10 to 18 years old boys. Our scouts are assigned to a patrol comprised of 8-12 scouts that vary in age. Patrol Leaders, which are senior scouts, lead each patrol and report to a Senior Patrol Leader (SPL). The SPL, who is elected by the scouts, plans the activities for the troop in conjunction with the leadership team. The Troop 50 Leadership Team includes the Assistant SPL, Patrol Leaders and Assistant Patrol Leaders, Adult Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmasters.

Explore the World with Scouting

The Boy Scouts is a youth organization that focuses on character development, outdoor skills, leadership, and community service. Through a structured program of merit badges, rank advancements, and hands-on activities, Scouts learn life skills, teamwork, and values rooted in the Scout Oath and Law, such as trustworthiness, helpfulness, and responsibility. The program emphasizes outdoor adventures, such as camping, hiking, and survival skills, while also encouraging citizenship and personal growth. It’s designed to prepare young people to make ethical choices, become effective leaders, and contribute positively to their communities.
