On November 26th, 2023, 20 Scouts and 7 adults from Troop 50 traveled to the western edge of the Atchafalaya Basin for a 5-hour canoe trip hosted by the expert staff from BSA Swamp Base. Led by our guide, the scouts learned some of the history of the basin, saw various types of wildlife (with a few close encounters) and learned about invasive species and what is being done to control them on the basin. We finished off the weekend by camping on the levee and working on back-country cooking methods.
